The entire Seattle Mariners organization takes the role of community leadership very seriously. The ballclub is in a unique position to connect the team with worthwhile endeavors, community partners and fundraising activities that make significant contributions to the Pacific Northwest. It is the goal and responsibility of the organization to be a community leader. During the 2008 Mariners season, Mariners Care, the team's non-profit foundation, helped raise over $1 million for various charities and community projects.

Mariner Moose D.R.E.A.M. Team School Assembly Program Presented By Microsoft |

The Mariner Moose D.R.E.A.M.Team School Assembly Program continues in 2008, visiting elementary schools throughout the Pacific Northwest. The program uses the Mariner Moose to deliver the importance of the D.R.E.A.M. Team principles: staying Drug Free, Respect for yourself and others, Education through reading, Attitude and Motivation. Mariners Education Day |

The Mariners held their 11th Annual Mariners Education Day on May 7, 2008. Mariners players, coaches and broadcasters visited six local elementary schools to deliver the D.R.E.A.M. Team message - stressing the importance of education and positive thinking. |

Refuse to Abuse Campaign |
 |
 |
During the 2008 season, Verizon Wireless is the title sponsor of the "Refuse to Abuse" Community Relations Program, which seeks to raise awareness and support victims of domestic violence. For every Mariners team win recorded, the Mariners, on behalf of Verizon Wireless, will donate $200 to the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Last season the Mariners won 88 games, for a total donation of $17,600. |

Jackie Robinson Scholarship Night |

This scholarship is a partnership between The Seattle Mariners, The Evergreen State College and Seattle Central Community College. It is for one year of resident, undergraduate tuition at Evergreen, and is awarded to three full-time students who demonstrate the ideals Jackie Robinson exemplified through all of his athletic endeavors. |

Boeing/Mariners Care Athletic Field Grant |

Since 1985, the Mariners and the Boeing Company have teamed up to provide baseball and softball facilities in our communities with an annual grant of $100,000. The 2008 recipient (and 24th recipient since the program's inception) is City of Des Moines. Past winners of the Boeing/Mariners Care Athletic Field grant include: Alderwood, Arlington, Carnation, Ballard, Vashon, Federal Way, Sumner, Mukilteo, Kennewick, Enumclaw, Yakima, Central Seattle, Shoreline, Sultan, Stanwood, Hazel Dell, Mount Vernon, Lynnwood, Port Orchard, Tukwila, North Seattle, Gig Harbor and West Seattle Little League. |

Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities League (RBI) |

The Mariners have once again joined together with Major League Baseball and the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County in 2008 to support the 14th season of the Seattle R.B.I. League. R.B.I. offers inner-city boys and girls, ages 13-18, the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of baseball and softball by providing them with a safe, organized athletic program. The R.B.I. League also features a life skills training program that concentrates on citizenship and academics. R.B.I. stresses that a good education is vital to any career, including sports. Pepsi Pitch, Hit and Run |

Pitch, Hit and Run is Major League Baseball's national skills program that gives boys and girls, ages 7-14, the opportunity to showcase their pitching, hitting and base running abilities. Youngsters may advance through four levels of competition, beginning each year with local competitions in April and May and concluding with the national Finals in July at the MLB All-Star Game. All-Star Legacy Field |

The City of Seattle's only baseball-only field and four nearby softball fields have undergone major capital renovations as a result of the 72nd Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The Seattle Parks and Recreation Department was awarded the 2001 Major League Baseball All-Star Legacy grant of $1 million. The grant, funded by a portion of the proceeds from the Claritin All-Star Workout Day and a generous donation from Major League Baseball Charities, was used for extensive improvements at the Lower Woodland Park Playfields, among the most heavily used fields by Seattle youth. |

Fidelity Investments Inspire the Future Award |

Fidelity Investments, together with the Seattle Mariners, honored individuals who have passionately and selflessly dedicated themselves to the advancement of youth baseball programs in the Northwest with the "Fidelity Investments Inspire the Future Award". Six awards were given throughout the season to individuals who have made a profound impact on kids and other volunteers through their leadership and inspiration. Fidelity Investments makes a $1,000 donation to the honoree's youth baseball program. Every fan donation to the Wishing Well at Safeco Field during the 2008 season will benefited Pacific Northwest patients and families at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center. |

Cystic Fibrosis Mariners Care Golf Tournament |

On May 29, 2008, Raul Ibanez, J.J. Putz, Richie Sexson and Mariners Care hosted the annual Cystic Fibrosis Mariners Care Golf Tournament at the Golf Club at Newcastle. This year, $191,000 was raised to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis, a fatal disease afflicting children and young adults. Over the past 21 years, Mariners players have helped to raise over $4 million for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

"Catch A Cure For Cancer" |

The Seattle Mariners were proud to join Warm 106.9 FM, The Moyer Foundation, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center to support Catch A Cure For Cancer. The Gregory Fund, inspired by Gregory Chaya, a young cancer patient Jamie Moyer met in 1993, is an initiative to raise awareness and promote early detection cancer research at the Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center. Fans tuned into Warm 106.9 FM on Wednesday, Sept. 10th, from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. to hear stories from families and MLB players whose lives have been affected by cancer and to make a monetary contribution during the Radiothon. This year Catch A Cure For Cancer Weekend raised over $150,000! |

KOMO 1000 News and Northwest Harvest |

The Seattle Mariners and KOMO 1000 News were proud sponsors of Strike Out Hunger 2008 on June 14, 2008. Prior to the game, non-perishable food items were collected at all gates to benefit Northwest Harvest. This year, Mariners fans donated nearly 1,000 pounds of food and approximately $7,000 for needy families. |

Microsoft "K's" for Education |

In 2008, for every strike out recorded by a Mariners pitcher, the Microsoft Corporation donated $25 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Puget Sound. Mariner's hurlers recorded 1,016 strikeouts for a total of $25,400. |

Home Runs that Help |

For every Mariners home run hit during the 2008 season, Fidelity Investments donated $100.00 to the Dan and Annie Wilson Endowment for Pediatric Cancer at Children's Hospital. This year, Mariners hitters hit 153 home runs, resulting in a donation of $12,400.

Doubles For Research |

Jose Lopez and the Mariners are proud to continue their partnership with the Puget Sound Blood Center, one of the world's premier blood research facilities. Through Mariners Care, for every double hit by a Mariners player, $50.00 will be donated to the Blood Center. The "Doubles for Research" program has raised over $60,000 to continue the blood research that saves lives in our Northwest communities and worldwide everyday. |

Bring 'Em Home Safe |

Schuck's Auto Supply will donate a children's car seat to a northwest family in need for the first Mariners run scored in each home game. Last year, Schuck's Auto Supply donated $5,720 worth of child safety seats.

Trader Joe's Home Run Program |

Trader Joe's will make a donation the Food Bank at St. Mary's in 2008 for each home run hit over 350 ft. by a Mariners player at Safeco Field. This year Trader Joe's donated $15,000 to the Food Bank at St. Mary's.

RBI's For Literacy |

For every Mariners RBI recorded during the 2008 season, PACCAR will donate $100 to Page Ahead Literacy. In 2008, Paccar donated $75,000 to page ahead.

Pepsi Partners |

For every Pepsi purchased at the following restaurants: Ibiza Dinner Club, Sazerac, Las Margaritas, Salty's Seafood Grills and Dukes Chowder House, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Mariners Care. The donation to Mariners Care for 2007 was $7500. |

Verizon Wireless' HopeLine Program |

Through the HopeLine program, used wireless phones, batteries and accessories from any service provider can be recycled or refurbished and sold. Verizon Wireless uses the proceeds to award grants to domestic-violence agencies in Washington state. Verizon Wireless distributes wireless phones with prepaid airtime to nonprofit human-services and law-enforcement agencies for use by domestic-violence victims.
On July 21st, fans donated used wireless phones and accessories to the Verizon Wireless' HopeLine phone-recycling program. Phones and accessories for Verizon Wireless' HopeLine phone-recycling program will be accepted year-round at Verizon Wireless Communications stores.

HairMasters "Make Me Over" |

This season (June 13, July 18, and Sept. 9), as part of the HairMasters "Make Me Over" promotion, fans donated $5 to Mariners Care in exchange for a haircut at the ballpark from a HairMasters stylist. This year, the promotion garnered 799 haircuts, totaling $2,065 for Mariners Care. |

Mariners fans had the opportunity to test their arms against the Major Leaguers with an official radar gun at the Les Schwab Mariners Care Speed Pitch machine located near the Centerfield entrance. Proceeds from the Les Schwab Mariners Care Speed Pitch machine benefited Mariners Care. |

The Hutch Award Luncheon brings together baseball stars past and present while raising vital funds for early cancer-detection research at Hutch's namesake institution, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Mariners Care Silent Auctions |

Since 2000, the Mariners have hosted Silent Auctions at each Saturday home game to benefit Mariners Care. Fans have the opportunity to bid on select memorabilia including autographed baseballs, game-used bats, autographed jerseys worn in the Mariners TV commercials, and several other unique items. The Silent Auctions, held at Section 128 at Safeco Field, begin when the gates open and conclude at the end of the sixth inning. In 2008, the Mariners Care Silent Auctions raised over $87,000, raising the nine-year total to over $721,000. |

Mariner Wives "My Favorite Things" Basket Auction: |

On Friday, Aug. 1, the Mariners Wives showcased and auctioned off baskets containing their husband's favorite items. Baskets included autographed items, game used items, player's favorite books, board games, DVDs, CDs and much more from players like Ichiro, Adrian Beltre, J.J. Putz. Proceeds from the auction benefited COTN, Children Of The Nations, a local and international agency that provides services for orphaned children in the Africa and the Dominican Republic & Meany Middle School Arts Initiative. |

Mariners Wives Grab Bags For First Place |

The Mariners Wives once again teamed up again with Mariners Care to help benefit First Place with their Annual Grab Bag Fundraiser. The Wives of Mariners players sold "grab bags" containing a ball signed by one of the 2008 Mariners on May 30th. This year's Grab Bag fundraiser raised $23,000 for First Place. The Mariners Wives have raised over $300,000 for First Place over the past seasons. |

Seattle Mariners Caravan |

The 2008 Seattle Mariners Caravan successfully hit the road Jan. 8-25, visiting 22 communities across the Pacific Northwest to increase excitement for the upcoming season. At each stop on the tour, select members of the 2008 Seattle Mariners visited elementary schools to deliver the D.R.E.A.M Team message and hosted complimentary autograph and photo sessions for the public. The Mariner Moose also accompanied the players to take pictures and provide entertainment for the kids. Members of the team who participated in the 2008 Seattle Mariners Caravan included Mark Lowe, Mike Morse, Sean Green, Eric O'Flaherty, and Ryan Feierabend. On Jan. 26 and 27, the Mariners welcomed fans from all over the Northwest to Safeco Field for their first glimpse of the 2008 Seattle Mariners team at the Tenth Annual Mariners FanFest. Fans had the chance to interact with players and catchers, new and old, and get autographs from J.J. Putz, Richie Sexson, as well as many other players and coaches.
