Update on right-handed pitcher Mark Lowe
09/29/2006 10:38 PM ET
Right-handed pitcher Mark Lowe will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow, the Mariners announced today.

Lowe, who was placed on the disabled list on August 20, had an MRI exam on Wednesday.

The MRI exam was read by Dr. Edward Khalfayan and Dr. Lewis Yocum. It showed a chondral defect in the right elbow. Lowe will have arthroscopic surgery to debride the right elbow at a date to be determined.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Yocum.

Lowe, 23, should be ready to participate in Spring Training with the Mariners in February.

Lowe was 1-0, 1.93 in 15 relief appearances for the Mariners after being selected from Tacoma on July 7. His club-record 17.2-inning scoreless streak to begin his Major League career ended Aug. 17 when he was touched for two runs.
