09/07/2008 12:22 AM ET
SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Lee Pelekoudas announced today that Mariners catcher Jeff Clement will have surgery on his left knee on Tuesday, September 9.

Mariners medical director Dr. Edward Khalfayan will perform the arthroscopic procedure to repair a lateral meniscus tear and a medial meniscus tear in Clement's left knee. Normal rehabilitation from this type of surgery is 3 to 4 weeks.

It is believed the tears were the result of normal wear and tear, not any one traumatic incident.

Clement, 25, hit .325 (25x77) in August with 7 runs scored and 12 RBI. For the season, he is hitting .227 (46x203) with 10 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs and 23 RBI in 66 Major League games. Clement hit .337 (58x172) with 14 home runs and 43 RBI in 47 games at AAA Tacoma this season.
