The Seattle Mariners join teams across Major League Baseball on Sunday, September 11, in paying tribute to first responders with MLB's National Day of Remembrance on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.

Some 3,000 tickets have been distributed to police, fire and emergency personnel and their families from around the greater Puget Sound area. Members of Seattle Police, Fire and EMT will be introduced on the field pregame and honored for their service to the community.

The National Anthem will be performed by the 56th Army Band from Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Seattle and Eastside Pipes and Drums will perform Amazing Grace pregame, and God Bless America will be performed during the seventh inning stretch by Keith Taylor, a talented vocalist who is also a member of the Marysville Fire Department.

Members of the Professional Firefighters of Kitsap County will present the colors for the game, and representatives of the King County Search and Rescue will carry a 45-foot by 75-foot American Flag in centerfield.

Mariners broadcaster Rick Rizzs will read Jack Buck's poem "We Shall Overcome," which Dave Niehaus recited during previous 9/11 observances at Safeco Field.

All players will wear an American flag patch on their caps and uniforms, and bases and lineup cards will be adorned with the Major League Baseball 9/11 "We Shall Not Forget" commemorative logo.

Volunteers from the American Red Cross will be outside the gates of Safeco Field collecting donations to continue the organization's mission to respond with food, shelter and hope when disaster strikes.

Game time for Sunday, September 11, when the Mariners meet the Kansas City Royals, is 1:10 p.m. Tickets for this game, and all remaining games on the Seattle Mariners home schedule, are available online at, without a service charge at the Safeco Field ticket office and Mariners Team Stores at 4th & Stewart in downtown Seattle, Bellevue Square, Southcenter Mall and Alderwood Mall, or by phone at 1-888-SEA-HITS.
