It was a night of crazy coincidences in the Safeco Field stands on Thursday, as a pair of teenaged fans -- both named Tyler, both from out-of-state and both attending their first Mariners games -- snagged foul balls down the third-base line.
Tyler Schimf, visiting from Sacramento, caught his souvenir uncontested but not easily. He said his hand was turning blue after making the glove-less grab.
Tyler Whitacker of Warrenton, OR, had some competiton for his ball. A veteran Mariners fan tried to swoop the line drive from him, diving over three rows of seats and spilling his beer in the process. But Whitacker was quicker, spearing the ball with his mitt.
