Coupling his amazing ability with an equally intimidating competitive fire, Busby burst onto the scene like few other pitchers. He was named the 1973 American League Rookie Pitcher of the Year in a vote by his peers. The two-time All-Star was the Royals 1974 Pitcher of the Year when he won 22 games. From 1973-75, he averaged more than 18 wins, 260 innings pitched and 177 strikeouts. He was the first pitcher in Major League history to throw no-hitters in each of his first two seasons. Though his career was shortened by a rotator cuff injury, his achievements earned him induction in the inaugural year of the Royals Hall of Fame.
