CAREER: Became a member of the Major League staff in 1999...has worked the Division Series (2004, 2007-08)...was assigned to the 2007 LAA-BOS?American League Division Series and the 2008 MIL-PHI National League Division Series...previously umpired in the Northwest League, Arizona Instructional League, South Atlantic League, California League, Eastern League and Pacific Coast League...both his father Paul and his grandfather Ed were Major League umpires, making the Runges the first three-generation umpiring family in the history of Major League Baseball...was behind the plate for the no-hitter thrown by San Francisco's Jonathan Sanchez on July 10, 2009, when the southpaw blanked San Diego at AT&T Park, and for White Sox right-hander Philip Humber's perfect game at Seattle on April 21, 2012...like Brian, both Ed and Paul also served as a home plate umpire for a no-hitter; the only other father-son tandem to work the plate for a no-hitter are the DiMuros (Lou and Mike).
PERSONAL: Born in January 1970 in California...resides in southern California...has three children.
