Mariners hope to salvage split
Texas (44-31) at Seattle (31-45), 1:35 p.m. PT
Travis Blackley makes his Major League debut at Safeco Field on Thursday, when the Mariners try to split their series with the Rangers.
This year at Triple-A Tacoma, Blackley had a 2.63 ERA -- best in the Pacific Coast League -- to go along with his 7-2 record. The Australian native's start will be the second consecutive one by a Mariners rookie. On Wednesday, Clint Nageotte made his fourth career start, losing, 9-6, to the
Rangers.
After Thursday's day game, the Mariners will be on the road until the All-Star
break. They will start in St. Louis to conclude their Interleague schedule,
then travel to Toronto before finishing the first half of the season in Chicago,
where they will reunite with Freddy Garcia.
