Ichiro collects three hits in Mariners' win
Outfielder also drives in a run in first game back since Classic

Thursday, March 23 Diamondbacks at the plate: Arizona didn't do much against Mariners starter Felix Hernandez, but Eric Byrnes singled in a run in the fifth inning after Johnny Estrada led off with a double off the center-field wall. Orlando Hudson and Chad Tracy added singles, and Jerry Gil singled in the D-Backs' second run in the eighth. Mariners at the plate: The Mariners struck for three runs in the second inning by putting together five straight hits, including a bloop two-run double by Jeremy Reed. Adrian Beltre drove in Seattle's fourth run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Ichiro Suzuki came back to the team after the World Baseball Classic and went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Matt Lawton had two hits and Richie Sexson doubled. Jose Lopez tripled in the sixth. Diamondbacks on the mound: Starter Russ Ortiz had a rough night, giving up four runs on 10 hits in five innings. He struck out three batters and walked one. Brandon Lyon pitched two innings of scoreless relief. Mariners on the mound: Hernandez turned in his best outing of the spring, giving up one run on four hits in five innings, while striking out eight and walking one. Five of his strikeouts came on called third strikes. Sean Green tossed a scoreless frame and Jeff Harris gave up one run in two innings. Rafael Soriano closed it out with a shutout ninth. Cactus League records: Diamondbacks 14-9; Mariners 8-13. Up next: The Diamondbacks will head back home to Tucson Electric Park on Friday, where they'll meet the Milwaukee Brewers in a 1:05 p.m. MST tilt. Righty Brandon Webb and lefty Terry Mulholland will toe the slab for the D-Backs, who will face Brewers southpaw Doug Davis.
The Mariners will stay in Peoria on Friday and host the World Series champion Chicago White Sox in a 12:05 p.m. PT game. Opening Day starter Jamie Moyer will get the ball first for the Mariners, and he will be followed by J.J. Putz, Eddie Guardado and George Sherrill. Former Mariner Freddy Garcia starts for Chicago.
