The Mariners stole victory from the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night with a rousing late-game comeback. They scored eight runs over the final three innings, including a five-run ninth. Carl Everett won the game with a three-run home run off C. J. Wilson in the ninth.

The Mariners' response to the dramatic victory will come Thursday night in the finale of the three-game series. Joel Pineiro, who threw 6 1/3 innings in the Mariners' first shutout (3-0 over Boston) in his previous start, gets the ball. He'll be opposed by Rangers' right-hander Vicente Padilla.

Pitching matchup
TEX: RHP Vicente Padilla (2-1, 4.76 ERA)
Padilla had two strong starts before a bit of a struggle in his last outing.

SEA: RHP Joel Pineiro (2-1, 3.66 ERA)
Pineiro is on a quest to prove that he can be among the game's best pitchers.

Player to watch
Gary Matthews Jr. is a tough out for Pineiro. In fact, Matthews gets on base nearly six out of 10 times against him. He's hitting .471 (8-of-17) with five walks for a .591 on-base percentage.
