Mariners send seven prospects to Peoria, four to Waikiki
The Mariners have assigned 11 players, including Nomar Garciaparra's younger brother, Michael, to participate in winter ball for the Waikiki BeachBoys of the Hawaii League and the Peoria Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League.
Here's how the Mariners prospects are doing so far in Hawaii and Arizona:
LHP David Asher -- Asher has not recorded a decision in two starts for the BeachBoys. He has yielded three runs -- two earned -- on nine hits over eight innings. The 23-year-old left-hander has struck out six and walked four. Asher played for the Class A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers during the season.
RHP Joe Woerman -- Woerman has not recorded a decision in three appearances for Waikiki. The 23-year-old right-hander has allowed one run on six hits over 5 1/3 innings. He has struck out six and walked two.
1B Reed Eastley -- Eastley has gotten off to a slow start for Waikiki. He has just one hit in his first five games and is hitless in his last 14 at-bats. The 23-year-old first baseman is batting .063 for the BeachBoys.
LF Sebastian Boucher -- Boucher is struggling in his first five games with the BeachBoys. He is 1-for-15 with two runs scored and two walks. The 24-year-old left fielder batted .248 with one home run and 29 RBIs in 110 games for Double-A San Antonio.
RHP Craig James -- James is playing for Peoria, but has not made an appearance for the Javelinas. The 23-year-old right-hander was 4-3 with one save and a 2.61 ERA in 43 appearances for San Antonio. He struck out 56 and walked 33 in 62 innings.
RHP Stephen Kahn -- Kahn is playing for Peoria, but has not made an appearance for the Javelinas. The 22-year-old right-hander split his time between Class A Advanced Inland Empire and San Antonio. With the 66ers, Kahn was 2-0 with eight saves and a 1.95 ERA in 20 games. He struck out 35 and walked 15 in 27 2/3 innings. The 6-foot-3 righty was 1-3 with 6.23 ERA in 31 games for San Antonio. He fanned 33 and walked 31 in 39 innings.
LHP Bobby Livingston -- Livingston has yet to appear in a game for Peoria. The 24-year-old left-hander spent the season with Tacoma, where he posted an 8-11 record with a 4.59 ERA in 22 starts. The 6-foot-3 lefty struck out 69 and walked 36 in 135 1/3 innings.
LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith -- Smith made his first appearance for Peoria on Tuesday against the Grand Canyon Rafters, and the 23-year-old left-hander allowed one run on one hit and a walk, while striking out three over two innings. The Australian split time between Inland Empire and San Antonio this past season.
2B Michael Garciaparra -- Garciaparra made his debut with Peoria on Tuesday against Grand Canyon, and the 23-year-old second baseman went 1-for-4 and scored a run for the Javelinas. He played for both San Antonio and Tacoma this season.
3B Matt Tuiasosopo -- Tuiasosopo was hitless in four at-bats, but drove in a run in his debut for Peoria. The 20-year-old third baseman played for both Inland Empire and San Antonio this season. In 59 games with the 66ers, he batted .306 with a homer, 34 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He struggled in 62 games with the Missions, hitting .185 with one home run and just 10 RBIs.
DH Michael Wilson -- Wilson went 1-for-4 with a double and scored a run in his only game for the Javelinas on Tuesday. Wilson was with both Inland Empire and San Antonio during the season. He hit .315 with nine home runs and 38 RBIs with the 66ers, and he smacked 12 homers and drove in 43 runs while batting .245 for the Missions.
