Mariners announce spring schedule

Cactus League slate to start with game vs. Giants

11/18/09 3:05 PM EST

The Mariners will start and finish their Spring Training schedule against the Giants.

A 33-game Cactus League season, announced on Wednesday, begins on March 3 at Peoria Stadium against the Giants, one day before the Mariners and Padres play their annual charity game at Peoria Stadium, the first of four consecutive games between the Spring Training partners.

The charity game benefits local causes in the Peoria area, including the American Cancer Society, Homeward Bound, Teen Lifeline, Inc., Challenger Space Center, Arizona Swing Kids, as well as local schools, summer camps, and food banks.

The Mariners will play 17 games in Peoria, including three when the Padres are the home team, and face the Reds for the first time in Spring Training history. The Reds, who are joining the Indians in Goodyear this spring, play the Mariners on March 19, a night game in Goodyear, and March 26 in Peoria.

The Mariners schedule includes two other night games -- the Rangers in Peoria on March 17 and Padres on March 24.

After breaking camp on April 1, the Mariners play two games against the Rockies in Albuquerque on April 2-3, followed by a game against the Giants at AT&T Park in San Francisco on April 4.

The Mariners open the season on April 5 against the Athletics in Oakland.
