MIAMI -- A Florida native with ties to Miami is now a member of the Marlins.
On Wednesday afternoon, Miami claimed lefty reliever Scott Maine off waivers from the Blue Jays. Maine, 27, is from the Jupiter, Fla., area, and he attended the University of Miami.
Maine made 30 relief appearances with the Cubs and Indians in 2012, posting a 6.08 ERA. He struck out 32 batters in 26 2/3 innings. Left-handed batters hit .188 against Maine, compared to right-handers hitting .343.
Maine started off the season with Chicago, and he appeared in 21 games, logging 20 2/3 innings and posting a 4.79 ERA. He finished up the season with Cleveland, making nine appearances in the final weeks.
A sixth-round pick of the D-backs in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, Maine was selected off waivers by the Blue Jays from the Indians on Oct. 31. But he was designated for assignment on Nov. 8.
