St. Petersburg, Florida - The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has purchased the contract of RHP Nick Martinez from Double-A Frisco of the Texas League.

Martinez will wear #22 and will make his major league debut on Saturday night in a start versus the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.

To make room for Martinez, RHP Daniel McCutchen has been optioned to Frisco.

Martinez, 23, combined to go 12-7, 2.50 (42 ER/151.1 IP) in 27 games/25 starts with Myrtle Beach (High-A) and Frisco in 2013, his third professional season. He made three appearances in "A" games for Texas this spring with no record and 1.23 ERA (1 ER/7.1 IP). Martinez was named to start the season's fifth game on March 26 after never officially being in big league camp prior to the announcement. His last outing was March 28 versus Houston at the Alamodome in San Antonio, allowing one run in 5.0 innings.

McCutchen allowed three runs/two earned runs in 2.1 innings against Tampa Bay on Friday in his only appearance since being purchased from Round Rock (AAA) on April 1.

In addition, catcher Chris Gimenez has taken his free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to Round Rock. Gimenez was claimed on waivers from Oakland on March 28 and was designated for assignment on April 1.

With today's moves, the Rangers major league roster is at the 40-man limit.
