Giants' protest upheld
Major League Baseball announced on Wednesday that Executive Vice President for Baseball Operations Joe Torre has upheld a protest filed by the San Francisco Giants regarding the calling of their rain-shortened game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night.

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that free agent Minor League right-handed pitcher Francisco Almonte has received a 72-game suspension without pay after testing positive for metabolites of Stanozolol, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
MLB owners unanimously elect Manfred as the game's 10th Commissioner
The owners of Major League Baseball's 30 Clubs today unanimously elected Robert D. Manfred, Jr. as the 10th Commissioner in the sport's history. The unanimous election of Manfred, who is currently MLB's Chief Operating Officer under Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig, was announced today by St. Louis Cardinals Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Bill DeWitt, Jr., who served as chairman of the Succession Committee established by the Major League Executive Council.
