Seattle Mariners heroes get their own comic book
"McDonald's Mariners Mojo" pits team against dastardly Bigfoots

The Seattle Mariners take on extraordinary powers in two special collectors editions of Mariners Mojo, a new comic book featuring the Mariners battling against a gang of Bigfoot monsters intent on taking over the world.

The first of the two comic books will be handed out to the first 20,000 fans at the game on Thursday, July 25 when the Mariners take on the Texas Rangers (7:05 p.m.). The comic will bear the game date and the phrase "Exclusive Ballpark Edition" on the cover, which heightens its collectibility. Beginning August 2, Issue #1, and the soon-to-be-published Issue #2, will both be available exclusively at all Washington McDonald's restaurants for $2.49 with any food purchase.

Mariners Mojo is produced by Ultimate Sports Force, a Los Angeles-based entertainment company that publishes sports-oriented comic books. Although the comic books are written for a 7-14 year old audience, they have become quite popular with collectors of all ages.

The plot is basic Good vs. Evil, with the good guys emerging triumphant. In Mariners Mojo Issue #1, Ichiro, Edgar, Ruben, Boonie and the rest of the Mariners team take on a gang of evil Bigfoot monsters scheming to take over the "Surface World" and rule the "smallfeet." The story, which is illustrated with 22-pages of full color drawings, features Seattle landmarks such as the Fremont Troll, Pike Place Market, the Space Needle and a Washington State Ferry.

Through teamwork, and with a little help from three young fans who stumble into the adventure, the Mariners use their special powers and intellect to track and finally subdue the monsters and save SAFECO Field and Seattle. Or do they? The story, of course, is continued in Mariners Mojo Issue #2.

Tickets for the July 25 game, and all Mariners home games, are available without a service charge at the Seattle Mariners Team Stores in downtown Seattle (4th & Stewart), Bellevue Square, Southcenter Mall, Alderwood Mall, Bellis Fair Mall in Bellingham, Capital Mall in Olympia and NorthTown Mall in Spokane, and at the SAFECO Field box office.
