Ibanez activated from disabled list
To make room, Aurila designated for assignment
CHICAGO -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball
Operations Bill Bavasi today announced that the Mariners have activated outfielder Raul Ibanez
from the 15-day disabled list. Ibanez will be available for tonight's game vs. the Chicago White
Sox.
To make room on the Major League, 25-man roster, infielder Rich Aurilia has been
designated for assignment. The Mariners now have 10 days to trade, release or outright Aurilia.
Ibanez played in four games with the AAA Tacoma Rainiers on a rehabilitation
assignment. In two games in left field and two games as a designated hitter, he was 4x17. He has
been on the disabled list since June 4 (retro-active to June 3) with a strained right hamstring. He
injured his leg trying to beat out a bunt hit on June 2.
Ibanez is hitting .268 in 51 games with Seattle this season, with 11 doubles, 11 HR and 28
RBI. Eight of Raul's 11 homers this season have either tied the game or put the Mariners in the
lead, including seven go-ahead homers.
Aurilia appeared in 73 games with the Mariners this season, hitting .241 (63x261) with 13
doubles, 4 home runs and 28 RBI, including hitting in 24 of his last 33 games (31x117/.265). He
signed a one-year contract with the Mariners on Jan. 8, 2004.
