Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Bill Bavasi announced today that the Mariners have selected the contract of infielder Dave Hansen from Triple-A Tacoma. Hansen will be available for today's 3:35 p.m. PT game versus the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He will be wearing No. 10 with Seattle.

Outfielder Shin-Soo Choo has been optioned to Triple-A Tacoma to make room on the Mariners Major League, 25-man roster. Infielder Pokey Reese has been transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL to make room on the Mariners 40-man roster.

Hansen, 36, was signed to a minor league contract by Seattle on April 28. In six games with the Rainiers, Hansen hit .300 (6-for-20) with 3 RBIs. He collected hits in four of six games, including multi-hit games in two contests. Hansen started four games at designated hitter, and one each at first base and third base. He went to spring training this year with the Chicago Cubs, but was released at the end of camp.

Hansen split last season between Seattle and San Diego. He was acquired by the Mariners on January 6, 2004 in a six-player trade, and hit .282 (22-for-78) with 2 home runs in 57 games with Seattle, including a pinch-hit home run on April 21 vs. Oakland. The Mariners traded him to the Padres on July 30, 2004.

Hansen is among the all-time leaders in career pinch-hits (137/5th) and pinch-hit homers (15/7th), and among the active leaders in career pinch-hit doubles (22/2nd). He has played with Los Angeles (1990-96, 1999-2002), Chicago Cubs (1997) San Diego (2003-2004) and Seattle (2004), as well as spending the 1998 season with Hanshin in Japan.

Choo, 22, appeared in three games with Seattle (1-for-3), collecting his first Major League hit and RBI last night. He played in seven games with Tacoma this year, and hit .304 (14-for-46) with 7 runs, a home run and 7 RBIs.
