Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Bill Bavasi announced today that catcher Dan Wilson has been activated from the 60-day disabled list.

Dan is scheduled to be the starting catcher tonight, as the Mariners host the Oakland A's. Earlier this year Dan announced that he would retire at the conclusion of the 2005 season. Tonight is expected to be his final game.

Wilson, 36, had surgery on May 20 to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The Mariners' Medical Director, Dr. Larry Pedegana, performed the procedure. He suffered the injury during the game on May 4 vs. the Angels. He was placed on the 60-day disabled list on May 5.

To make room on the Mariners Major-League 40-man roster, infielder Willie Bloomquist has been transferred from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

Wilson is in his 12th season with Seattle and his 14th Major League season overall. He is in the Mariners Top 10 in a bevy of offensive categories, including games played (4th/1,250), hits (5th/1071), extra base hits (7th/308), total bases (6th/1,568), doubles (5th/207), RBI (6th/508), at-bats (6th/4,085), home runs (10th/88) and runs (9th/433).

Tonight is also Fan Appreciation Night, featuring prizes and other special events to thank fans for their support during the season. All fans in attendance will receive a 2005 Seattle Mariners team poster with a preview of the 2006 regular season schedule, courtesy of Alaska Airlines Vacations. There will also be random drawings for prizes throughout the game including Alaska Airlines vacations, the chance to mow the grass at Safeco Field, autographed team memorabilia and dozens of other valuable items including digital cameras, CD players, digital music players and DVD boxed sets.
