Minnesota Twins outfielder Torii Hunter and Seattle Mariners outfielder Raul Ibañez have been named Bank of America Presents the American League Co-Players of the Week for the period ending September 24. Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the American League and National League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect Bank of America's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

Hunter hit .423 (11-26) with a .808 slugging percentage, including three home runs, nine RBI and 21 total bases. In a three-game series at Boston from September 19-21, he went 6-for-12 with two home runs and six RBI. During the middle game of the series, the five-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to help lead the Twins to an 8-2 victory. On the season, Hunter is batting .279 with 29 home runs and 93 RBI. This is his second career weekly award (previous: June 13, 2005). He is the second Twin to earn weekly honors this season, joining teammate Joe Mauer (June 12).

Ibañez batted .424 (14-33) with a .758 slugging percentage, including two doubles, three home runs, seven RBI and 25 total bases. The left fielder is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak. In a four-game series against the Chicago White Sox from September 21-24, Ibañez went 9-for-19 with two home runs and six RBI. On the season, he is batting .286 with career highs in home runs (30) and RBI (117). This is Ibañez's first weekly award with the Mariners and the second of his career (previous: July 21, 2002, while with Kansas City). He is the second Mariner to win weekly honors in 2006, joining teammate Ichiro Suzuki (June 5).

Other candidates considered were Cleveland's Victor Martinez (.423, 6 RBI), Jim Thome (.400, .950 SLG, 3 HR, 7 RBI) of the Chicago White Sox, Detroit's Magglio Ordoñez (.370, 4 HR, 7 RBI) and Baltimore's Miguel Tejada (.433, 13 H, 21 TB).

In recognition of this honor, Tourneau, the world's largest watch store, is proud to award the Bank of America Presents the American League Co-Players of the Week Torii Hunter and Raul Ibanez with a Tourneau luxury Swiss timepiece.
