OAKLAND, Calif. -- A's Vice President and General Manager Billy Beane issued the following statement today regarding the death of former A's pitcher Cory Lidle:

"Cory's death is a terrible shock to all of us. Our sympathies go out to his wife Melanie and their young son, Christopher. We all have fond memories of Cory and his family during his time with our organization and he'll be missed by us all." Lidle pitched for the Athletics from 2001-2002.
