RHP Blake Beavan and OF Brandon Boggs Among Winners of Club's May Minor League Awards
OF Engel Beltre and RHP Cody Eppley also honored

The Texas Rangers announced today the club's minor league award winners for May. Right-handed pitcher Blake Beavan was named Pitcher of the Month, outfielder Brandon Boggs was named Player of the Month, outfielder Engel Beltre was named Defender of the Month, and right-hander Cody Eppley was named Reliever of the Month.

Beavan, 21, was the only pitcher in minor league baseball to earn 6 victories in the month of May. the right-hander posted a 2.23 ERA (10 ER/40.1 IP) with 28 strikeouts against just 4 walks in 6 starts during the month for the 'Riders. the Irving product has gone 8-3, 2.58 (24 ER/83.2 IP) with 52 strikeouts and just 11 walks in 13 starts overall for Frisco this season, while holding Texas League batters to a .222 average (69-311). Beavan leads the league in innings and is tied for the lead in wins, while also ranking among the league leaders in ERA (5th) and strikeouts (T7th). he was selected by Texas in the first round (17th overall) of the 2007 June draft and signed by Jay Eddings.

Boggs, 27, posted the 4th-highest OPS (.861) among all Texas minor leaguers, while leading Oklahoma City with a .376 on-base percentage and tying for the team lead in home runs (4) for the month of May. the switch-hitter is batting .295 (56-190) with 12 doubles, 4 triples, 7 home runs, and 25 RBI in 53 games with the RedHawks. Boggs has also batted .390 (16-41) with runners in scoring position this season. The Georgia native is currently riding a 5-game hit streak (9-18) and batting .362 (17-47) through 12 games in June. Boggs is a member of the club's 40-man roster and has appeared in 110 game at the major league level over the past 3 seasons.

Beltre, 20, appeared in 30 games in center field for Bakersfield in May without committing an error...the Dominican Republic native has committed just 3 errors overall this season and is 2nd on the club with 6 outfield assists. at the plate, Beltre is hitting .311 (66-212) with 5 home runs and 29 RBI in 55 games with the Blaze. the left-handed hitter is in the midst of an 8-game hit streak (14-33) and has batted .353 (48-136) over his last 34 games. Beltre was acquired in a 4-player trade with Boston in 2007.

Eppley, 24, split the month of May between Bakersfield and Frisco, posting a 0.53 ERA (1 ER/17.0 IP) with 7 saves during the month. the side-winder opened the season with 22.0-consecutive scoreless innings over his first 17 appearances, recording 30 strikeouts and allowing just 11 hits. overall, the right-hander has gone 3-0, 0.59 (2 ER/30.2 IP) with 10 saves and 37 strikeouts against just 6 walks in 25 games between Bakersfield and Frisco. he was originally selected by Texas in the 43rd round of the 2008 June draft and signed by Russ Ardolina.
