Seattle Mariners Dedicate Opening Homestand to Japan Relief Efforts
Red Cross will assist with collection of donations for earthquake and tsunami disaster relief

The Seattle Mariners will dedicate the six-game opening homestand of the 2011 season to Japan relief efforts. The Club will make a donation to the Red Cross to match all Mariners Front Office employee and fan contributions with a guaranteed donation through Mariners Care of $100,000. Nintendo of America Inc. of Redmond, WA, the majority owner of the Seattle Mariners, is matching donations from its employees to either the American Red Cross or Americares. Nintendo Co., Ltd., of Kyoto, Japan, the parent company of Nintendo of America Inc., is making a contribution to relief efforts in Japan. It has announced on its website that they would donate 300,000,000 yen, or the equivalent of $3.7 million to earthquake relief efforts.

"The Mariners join with people from around the world in extending our sympathy to the many people affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami. The Mariners have had great support from the Japanese business community and fans all across Japan. Our thoughts and best wishes are with them as they begin the long road to recovery," said Howard Lincoln, Seattle Mariners Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

Red Cross Collection
On Opening Day, Friday, April 8, vs. the Cleveland Indians, and each game of the homestand, which concludes on Wednesday, April 13, vs. the Toronto Blue Jays, volunteers from the Red Cross will be outside the gates of Safeco Field collecting donations. Donations will also be accepted inside Safeco Field at Guest Services located at Section 128, The Wells Fargo Terrace Club at Section 233 and the Upper Concourse at Section 329. The Mariners will also work with the Red Cross to collect donations on other select game dates this season including Salute to Japan Night. The date for Salute to Japan Night will be announced later.

Saturday Silent Auction
Proceeds from the first Mariners Care Saturday Silent auction on April 9, which will feature autographed memorabilia from Mariners players, will be dedicated to the Red Cross. Charity silent auctions are conducted each Saturday home game at Section 128 of the Main Concourse. Bidding starts when the gates open and concludes during the middle of the 6th inning.

Red Cross Donations
The Mariners will also use its resources during the opening homestand to promote the Red Cross online and mobile giving features. Donations can be directed to Japan earthquake and tsunami relief by following the links at www.redcross.org. Mobile donations can be made by texting RedCross to 90999. A $10 donation will appear on the donor's cell phone bill.
