Mariners sign 21 players from 2011 Draft
Signings include 12 pitchers and 9 position players
tickets for any Major League Baseball game

The Seattle Mariners Director of Amateur Scouting Tom McNamara announced today that the club has signed 21 players from the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, including infielder Daniel Paolini (10th), left-handed pitcher Cameron Hobson (11th), catcher Michael Dowd (12th), outfielder Jamal Austin (13th), right-handed pitcher Cody Weiss (14th), outfielder Nate Melendres (17th), infielder Dillon Hazlett (20th), right-handed pitcher Joe DiRocco (21st), infielder Kenneth Straus (26th), right-handed pitcher David Colvin (34th), right-handed pitcher Brett Shankin (28th), left-handed pitcher Kyle Hunter (31st), right-handed pitcher Alex Sunderland (38th), infielders Chris Andreas (39th), right-handed pitcher Trevor Miller (40th), right-handed pitcher Robert Shore (41st) catcher David Villasuso (42nd), right-handed pitcher Marcos Reyna (43rd), infielder Josh Corrales (44th), outfielder Charles Jimenez (45th) and right-handed pitcher Max Krakowiak (48th).

"We are excited to get these players in uniform and to see all the young talent we recently drafted in action," Director of Amateur Scouting Tom McNamara said.

Short-A Everett AquaSox, who won the 2010 Northwest League Championship, begins action on Friday, June 17 at Tri-City. Rookie Peoria Mariners began play on Monday, June 20, while Rookie Pulaski Mariners season gets under way on Tuesday, June 21.

The Mariners are one of 6 teams who still have five drafted players from the 2011 draft currently playing in the College World Series. LHP Danny Hultzen (2nd overall), catcher John Hicks (4th) and third baseman Steven Proscia (7th) are currently playing for the University of Virginia, while outfielder Michael McGee is playing for Florida State (15th) and RHP John Taylor is on the University of South Carolina squad (22nd).

Seattle made 51 selections in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, highlighted by their first pick, left-handed pitcher Danny Hultzen, who was the 2nd overall pick in the draft. The Mariners selected 28 pitchers, including 6 left-handers, 7 catchers, 9 infielders (3 1B, 2 2B, 3B, 3 SS), and 7 outfielders. Seattle selected 38 college players and 13 high school players.
