Ramirez ready to face Angels

Seattle (5-7) at Los Angeles (7-9), 6:05 p.m. PT

Left-hander Horacio Ramirez grew up just a few miles north of Anaheim, but he doesn't exactly feel at home in this part of Southern California.

"This is the first time I've pitched in this ballpark," Ramirez said on Friday on the eve of his second "official" start of the regular season.

Ramirez's baseball roots are in Inglewood, Calif., located only about 30 miles north of Disneyland, but in a different league as far as he's concerned. His focus was on the National League, specifically, the Dodgers.

But he's now an American League player, and the Mariners badly need an uplifting performance from one of their three new starting pitchers. Seattle is on a four-game losing streak and has not won since Ramirez defeated the Rangers at Safeco Field.

He held the Rangers to one earned run over six innings in his long-awaited Mariners debut. He actually started the fourth game of the season, but it was snowed out in Cleveland one out shy of becoming an official game, and all stats were wiped.

The Mariners started seven-game road trip through the AL West on Friday night with an 8-4 loss to the Angels and face right-hander Bartolo Colon, who is making his regular-season debut after recovering from an injury.

Pitching matchup
SEA: LHP Horacio Ramirez (1-0, 1.50 ERA)
It took much longer than he expected, but Ramirez finally pitched in a game that counted. Ramirez surrendered just one earned run in a six-inning outing against the Rangers.

LAA: RHP Bartolo Colon (0-0, -. -- )
The Mariners have averaged more than four runs a game off Colon during the past three seasons, but he still has a 5-2 record in that span against Seattle.

Player to watch
Ichiro Suzuki has just 13 hits in 55 career at-bats against Colon, but four of those hits have sailed into the seats for home runs.
