Mariners claim outfielder Sott Cousins from Toronto
SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced today that outfielder Scott Cousins has been acquired via a waiver claim from the Toronto Blue Jays.
With the addition of Cousins, the Mariners 40-man roster is now at 37 players (see attached roster in PDF format).
Cousins, 27, split last season between AAA New Orleans and the Miami Marlins. With the Marlins he appeared in 53 games, batting .163 (14x86) with 4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run and 3 RBI. He played all three outfield positions for the Marlins (LF – 6 G/0 GS, CF – 18 G/8 GS, RF – 12 G/6 GS). With New Orleans he batted .296 (69x233) in 61 games. He also played with the Marlins in 2010 (27 G) and 2011 (48 G).
Over seven minor league seasons he has combined to bat .279 with 106 doubles, 21 triples, 62 home runs and 280 RBI. Cousins was originally selected out of the University of San Francisco in the third round of the 2006 June draft.
