Mariners' challenge unsuccessful on play at home

SEATTLE -- An out call at home plate was confirmed using Major League Baseball's instant-replay policy in Sunday's rubber game between the Mariners and Tigers at Safeco Field.
Leading 1-0 with two outs and runners on first and third, the Mariners attempted a double steal in the third inning with first baseman Justin Smoak batting.
When Endy Chavez broke for second, Detroit catcher Bryan Holaday threw to shortstop Danny Worth, who fired back to the plate to nab a breaking Willie Bloomquist on a close play.
After manager Lloyd McClendon challenged the out, the call was confirmed following a one-minute, 19-second review.
