Todd Frazier contributes $10,000 to Baseball United Foundation
Point Pleasant, N.J., native donates portion of Players Choice Awards charitable contribution to 'Grand Slam for Sandy' fundraising effort

NEW YORK -- Todd Frazier of the Cincinnati Reds and a native of Point Pleasant, N.J., has designated the Baseball United Foundation's "Grand Slam for Sandy" fundraising effort as the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Major League Baseball Players Trust.

The donation is part of a $20,000 charitable contribution Frazier received for being named the 2012 National League Outstanding Rookie in Players Choice Awards balloting. 2012 Players Choice Award winners in all categories will designate charities to receive grants totaling $260,000 from the Major League Baseball Players Trust.

Through its "Grand Slam for Sandy" fundraising effort, the Baseball United Foundation is providing much-needed relief to families in Monmouth County, N.J., who were affected by Hurricane Sandy.

"When Sandy hit, I knew I wanted to help out in some way. Anytime you can help families get back on their feet after such devastation, it is a no brainer," Frazier said.

The "Grand Slam for Sandy" fundraiser was started by Boston Red Sox Minor League catcher Jayson Hernandez and his former Rutgers teammate Rob Corsi, in conjunction with the Baseball United Foundation. Many donations have come from the duo's connections in college and professional baseball.

"The Jersey Shore is my home, and it has been devastated," explained Hernandez from the Red Sox Spring Training complex in Fort Myers, Fla. "I want to thank everyone who has donated to the cause -- especially Todd Frazier and the Major League Baseball Players Trust."

The "Grand Slam for Sandy" fundraiser is raising much-needed funds for families affected by Hurricane Sandy. Money raised is being dispersed directly to families whose homes were badly damaged or destroyed by the storm, as well as organizations assisting those affected in Union Beach, N.J.

The Players Trust raises funds and attention for issues affecting the needy and promotes community involvement. Since 1992, the Players Trust has recognized the outstanding on-field and off-field performances of Players Choice Awards winners by contributing more than $3 million to charities around the world.
