Mariners Care Programs
The entire Seattle Mariners organization takes the role of community leadership very seriously. The ballclub is in a unique position to connect the team with worthwhile endeavors, community partners and fundraising activities that make significant contributions to the Pacific Northwest. It is the goal and responsibility of the organization to be a community leader. During the 2009 Mariners season, Mariners Care, the team's non-profit foundation, helped raise nearly $1 million for various charities and community projects.

Mariner Moose D.R.E.A.M. Team School Assembly Program Presented By Microsoft |

The Mariner Moose D.R.E.A.M.Team School Assembly Program continues to visit elementary schools in the Pacific Northwest throughout the 2009-2010 school year. The program uses the Mariner Moose to deliver the importance of the D.R.E.A.M. Team principles: staying Drug-free, Respect for yourself and others, Education through reading, Attitude and Motivation. Mariners Education Day |

The Mariners held their 12th Annual Mariners Education Day on May 19, 2009. Mariners players, coaches and broadcasters visited six local elementary schools to deliver the D.R.E.A.M. Team message - stressing the importance of education and positive thinking. |

Refuse to Abuse Campaign |

 |
During the 2009 season, Mariners Care and Verizon Wireless teamed up with the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence to support the "Refuse to Abuse" campaign, which seeks to raise awareness and support victims of domestic violence. |

Jackie Robinson Scholarship Night |
 |
 |
This scholarship is a partnership between The Seattle Mariners, The Evergreen State College and Seattle Central Community College. It is awarded to three full-time students who transfer from Seattle Central Community College to Evergreen and recognizes students who have demonstrated the ideals of Jackie Robinson through all of his athletic endeavors, and have distinguished themselves through their academic achievement and outstanding commitment to community involvement and social justice. |

Boeing Mariners Care Athletic Field Grant |

Since 1985, the Mariners and the Boeing Company have teamed up to provide baseball and softball facilities in our communities with an annual grant of $75,000. The2009 recipient (and 25th recipient since the program's inception) is the Northwest Parks Foundation in Woodenville. Past winners of the Boeing Mariners Care Athletic Field grant include: Alderwood, Arlington, Carnation, Ballard, Vashon, Federal Way, Sumner, Mukilteo, Kennewick, Enumclaw, Yakima, Central Seattle, Shoreline, Sultan, Stanwood, Hazel Dell, Mount Vernon, Lynnwood, Port Orchard, Tukwila, North Seattle, Gig Harbor, West Seattle Little League and City of Des Moines. |
 | Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities League (RBI) |

The Mariners have once again joined together with Major League Baseball and the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County in 2009 to support the 15th season of the Seattle R.B.I. League. R.B.I. offers inner-city boys and girls, ages 8-18, the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of baseball and softball by providing them with a safe, organized athletic program. On July 12th, Mariners fans and The Baseball Tomorrow Fund teamed up to collect new and gently used baseball and softball equipment to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County. The equipment and cash donations in 2009 totaled $11,500.

Pepsi Pitch, Hit and Run |

Pitch, Hit and Run is Major League Baseball's national skills program that gives boys and girls, ages 7-14, the opportunity to showcase their pitching, hitting and base running abilities. Youngsters may advance through four levels of competition, beginning each year with local competitions in April and May and concluding with the national Finals in July at the MLB All-Star Game. All-Star Legacy Field |

The City of Seattle's only baseball-only field and four nearby softball fields have undergone major capital renovations as a result of the 72nd Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The Seattle Parks and Recreation Department was awarded the 2001 Major League Baseball All-Star Legacy grant of $1 million. The grant, funded by a portion of the proceeds from the Claritin All-Star Workout Day and a generous donation from Major League Baseball Charities, was used for extensive improvements at the Lower Woodland Park Playfields, among the most heavily used fields by Seattle youth. |

Fidelity Investments Inspire the Future Award |

Fidelity Investments, together with the Seattle Mariners, honor individuals who have passionately and selflessly dedicated themselves to the advancement of youth baseball programs in the Northwest with the "Fidelity Investments Inspire the Future Award". Six awards were given throughout the season to individuals who have made a profound impact on kids and other volunteers through their leadership and inspiration. Fidelity Investments made a $1,000 donation to the honoree's youth baseball or softball program.

Every fan donation to the Wishing Well at Safeco Field during the 2009 season benefited Pacific Northwest patients and families at Seattle Children's Hospital. |

Cystic Fibrosis Mariners Care Golf Tournament |

On June 22, 2009 Ryan Rowland-Smith, Mark Lowe, and the Seattle Mariners hosted the annual Cystic Fibrosis Mariners Care Golf Tournament at the Golf Club at Newcastle. The event, held annually since 1986, has raised over $4.2 million to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis, a fatal disease afflicting children and young adults. This years tournament raised over $180,000 the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. |

"Catch A Cure For Cancer" |

The Seattle Mariners were proud to join The Moyer Foundation, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and Warm 106.9 to support Catch A Cure For Cancer. The Gregory Fund, inspired by Gregory Chaya, a young cancer patient Jamie Moyer met in 1993, is an initiative to raise awareness and promote early detection cancer research at the Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center. 2009 Catch A Cure For Cancer Radiothon was held on September 16th on WARM 106.9 and raised over $44,000. |

News Talk 97.3 KIRO FM and Northwest Harvest |

The Seattle Mariners and News Talk 97.3 KIRO FM were proud sponsors of Fight Hunger on May 16, 2009. Prior to the game, non-perishable food items were collected at all gates to benefit Northwest Harvest. Mariners fans donated over 1,000 pounds of food and approximately $6,000 for needy families. |

Microsoft "Ks" for Education |

In 2009, for every strike out recorded by a Mariners pitcher, the Microsoft Corporation will donate $25 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Puget Sound. Mariner's hurlers recorded 1,043 strikeouts in 2009 for a total of $26,075. |

Home Runs that Help |

For every Mariners home run hit during the 2009 season, Fidelity Investments donated $100.00 to the Dan and Annie Wilson Endowment for Pediatric Cancer at Seattle Children's Hospital. Mariner's hitters recorded 160 home runs in 2009, for a total of $16,000. |

Refuse to Abuse Campaign |

For every Mariners team win recorded, the Mariners, on behalf of Verizon Wireless, will donate $200 to the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The Mariners one 85 games in 2009, for a donation of $17,000. |

Trader Joe's Home Run Program |

Trader Joe's made a donation to the University District Food Bank in 2009 for each home run hit over 350 ft. by a Mariners player at Safeco Field. In 2009, Trader Joe's donated $18,000 to the University District Food Bank.

RBIs For Literacy |

For every Mariners RBI recorded during the 2009 season, PACCAR will donate $100 to Page Ahead Literacy. In 2009, Paccar donated $75,000 to Page Ahead.

Hits For Junior Achievement

On September 2, 2009, Key Bank donated $500 to Junior Achievement for every hit recorded by a Mariners player in that afternoon's game for a total of $2,500.

Pepsi Partners |

For every Pepsi purchased at the following restaurants: Ibiza Dinner Club, Sazerac, Las Margaritas, Salty's Seafood Grills and Dukes Chowder House, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Mariners Care. The donation to Mariners Care for 2009 was $7500. |

Verizon Wireless' HopeLine Program |

 |
Through the HopeLine program, used wireless phones, batteries and accessories from any service provider can be recycled or refurbished and sold. Verizon Wireless uses the proceeds toward grants to domestic-violence agencies in Washington state. Verizon Wireless distributes wireless phones with prepaid airtime to nonprofit human-services and law-enforcement agencies for use by domestic-violence victims.
On July 9th, fans donated used wireless phones and accessories to the Verizon Wireless' HopeLine phone-recycling program. Phones and accessories for Verizon Wireless' HopeLine phone-recycling program will be accepted year-round at Verizon Wireless Communications stores. Approximately 605 phones were collected at Safeco Field during the 2009 season.

Mariner fans have the opportunity to test their arms against the Major Leaguers with an official radar gun at the Mariners Care Speed Pitch machine located near the Centerfield entrance. Proceeds from the Mariners Care Speed Pitch machine benefit Mariners Care. |

The Fred Hutch Award Luncheon |

The Hutch Award Luncheon brings together baseball stars past and present while raising vital funds for early cancer-detection research at Hutch's namesake institution, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Mariners Care Silent Auctions |

Since 2000, the Mariners have hosted Silent Auctions at each Saturday home game to benefit Mariners Care. Fans have the opportunity to bid on select memorabilia including autographed baseballs, game-used bats, autographed jerseys worn in the Mariners TV commercials, and several other unique items. The Silent Auctions, held at Section 128 at Safeco Field, begin when the gates open and conclude at the end of the sixth inning. In 2009, the Mariners Care Silent Auctions raised over $57,000, raising the ten-year total to over $846,000.

Mariner Wives "My Favorite Things" Basket Auction: |

On Friday, Aug. 14, the Mariners Wives showcased and auctioned off baskets containing their husband's favorite items. Over $14,000.00 was raised for Children of the Nations, "I Love Baseball" program. Baskets included autographed items, game used items, player's favorite books, CDs, DVDs and much more. |

Mariners Wives Grab Bags |

The Annual Grab Bag Fundraiser, benefiting the Mariners Care Foundation, took place on June 19th. The Wives of Mariners players, along with volunteers from Mariners Care, sold mystery "grab bags" containing a ball signed by one of the 2009 Mariners. Total amount raised was $31,000. |

Commissioner's Initiative for Kids Tickets |

Through Mariners Care and Major League Baseball, the Commissioner's Initiative for Kids provided the opportunity for thousands of children to attend Seattle Mariners home games through ticket donations to non-profit organizations. If you would like to bring your non-profit organization to attend a game at Safeco Field, please submit a formal letter of request on letterhead that includes the approximate size of the group and, if needed, the number of wheelchair accessible seats required for your group along with your contact information. The 2009 Seattle Mariners Caravan successfully hit the road Jan. 7-23, visiting communities across the Pacific Northwest to increase excitement for the upcoming season. At each stop on the tour, select members of the Seattle Mariners visited elementary schools to deliver the D.R.E.A.M Team message and hosted complimentary autograph and photo sessions for the public. Mariners FanFest |

On Jan. 24 and 25, the Mariners welcomed fans from all over the Northwest to Safeco Field for their first glimpse of the 2009 Seattle Mariners team at the Eleventh Annual Mariners FanFest. Fans had the chance to get autographs and interact with players and coaches, new and old, and get autographs from Franklin Gutierrez and Manager Don Wakamatsu, as well as many other players and coaches.
