The new video screen replaces the outdated video and matrix board in use since the ballpark opened in 1999.
The Seattle Mariners announced today that the centerfield scoreboard at Safeco Field is being replaced with a state-of-the-art High Definition video screen that will be the largest in Major League Baseball.

The new video screen replaces the outdated video and matrix board in use since the ballpark opened in 1999.

The Mariners are responsible for capital upgrades, maintenance and operations at Safeco Field, and the cost of the new scoreboard and several other capital projects to be completed during the offseason are part of an overall $80+ million investment the Mariners have made in Safeco Field since 1999.

The new video screen will have better resolution than is available for broadcast HD and will be able to display the usual scoring information, lineups, etc., can be divided into sectors to provide a combination of information, stats and video at the same time or become a giant video screen equivalent to 2,182 42-inch flat screens.
