An interesting aspect of the 2013 season will be the addition of the Houston Astros as a fifth team in the American League West. The Mariners play nine home games against the Astros beginning with our Home Opener on Monday, April 8. This season's schedule also features interleague play against the National League Central: the Mariners host the Milwaukee Brewers, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs at Safeco Field, and play the Cincinnati Reds, Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals on the road.
General Manager Jack Zduriencik and his staff have have been focused on adding offense to the roster this winter. The trade with the Los Angeles Angels to acquire first baseman/designated hitter Kendrys Morales adds punch to the middle of the lineup. Former Mariners outfielder Raul Ibañez and Northwest native Jason Bay return to Seattle, adding depth and veteran leadership to the clubhouse. These acquisitions complement the core of young, emerging talent already on the field with Kyle Seager, Dustin Ackley, Michael Saunders, Jesús Montero and Justin Smoak, and a solid pitching rotation anchored by one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball, Felix Hernandez. With a month left before the start of Spring Training, Jack continues to explore options to improve the 2013 club.
You will have an opportunity to hear directly from Jack Zduriencik about these off-season moves and more at the 15th Annual Mariners FanFest on Saturday, January 26 and Sunday, January 27. The full lineup of current and former players, coaches and personalities is available at Mariners.com/FanFest. There are special opportunities for Mariners Season Ticket Holders at FanFest, including the Exclusive Season Ticket Holder Only FanFest from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, Season Ticket Holder Express Lines at several key attractions and the Season Ticket Holder Terrace Club Lounge available throughout the weekend.
