PLAYING CAREER: Selected by Oakland (2nd round, January 1982 draft) and Seattle (6th round, June 1982 draft, secondary phase) but did not sign...was selected by San Francisco with their first selection (No. 2, overall) in the secondary phase of the June, 1983 draft...spent his entire ML career playing second base for the Giants, compiling a career average of .257 with 238 doubles, 39 triples, 119 home runs, 458 RBI and 103 steals in 1,304 games...was the Giants Opening Day starter at second base for 11 straight seasons (1986-96)...was a two-time NL All-Star (1988, 1993)...Gold Glove and Silver Slugger winner in 1993...retired in spring of 1997 after going to Indians camp as a non-roster player.
